After your surgery you will be taken to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) for observation. Your vital signs will be closely monitored and, if necessary, your pain and nausea will be addressed.

Your recovery time will depend on the type of anesthesia that you received and the procedure performed. Recovery time can range from 30 minutes to upwards of 2 hours. When you are ready to be discharged to either the post-operative phase of Same Day Surgery or to your room upstairs, you will be taken there by stretcher. Your family will be reunited with you upon your arrival.

It is natural to experience some discomfort in the area of your surgery. You also may experience some drowsiness or dizziness depending on the type of anesthesia and the amount of pain medications your received.

If you are going home the same day as your surgery, your discharge instructions will be reviewed with you and your responsible adult. Any prescriptions that the surgeon has written for you to take upon discharge will be given to you then.

If you are discharged home the same day as your surgery, you will receive a follow up phone call the next day to check on your progress. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have.
