Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC), located in Salisbury, MD, today announced it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Hospital Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

Additionally, all of PRMC’s specialty and family medicine offices and health pavilions surveyed were also fully accredited in the 2019 review.

PRMC and satellite locations underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review from April 23-26, 2019.  During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with hospital and medical office standards spanning several areas including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management and patient rights and responsibilities.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, Chief Operating Officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Peninsula Regional Medical Center for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”

“PRMC is pleased to again receive accreditation from The Joint Commission, the premier health care quality improvement and accrediting body in the nation,” added Steve Leonard, Ph.D., MBA, FACHE, President/CEO.  “Staff from across the organization and throughout our network of specialty offices and family medicine practices continue to work together to develop and implement approaches that have the potential to improve care for the patients in our community.”

PRMC is also one of just five hospitals in Maryland, and the only on the Delmarva Peninsula, to be awarded a Five-Star rating--the highest possible--by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in 2019.  In 2019, it was also the recipient, for a second consecutive year, of an A safety grade by the Leapfrog Group and was named an America’s 250 BEST Hospital by Healthgrades, placing it among the Top 5% of hospitals in the United States for a second consecutive year.
