Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury is starting a new support group for people with sickle cell disease. The first meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 17 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Radiation Oncology Conference Room in Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute. Sickle cell disease us a disorder in which the body makes sickle-shaped blood cells. People with SCD can be affected in many different ways. The support group gives people with SCD the chance to interact with others facing similar issues, and to learn and share information. Topics will include healthy habits, how to prevent infections, medication management, pain control and stress management.
