With many Heart Month and other activities planned, February will be a busy month here at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Consider joining one of these classes or events:

Sunday, February 3

Heart & Sole 5K/2-Mile Walk. 9 a.m. Free. Avery W. Hall Educational Center, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. All runners and walkers are invited to this free fitness event presented by the Guerrieri Heart & Vascular Institute at PRMC to promote exercise and heart health awareness. The 5K Run/2 Mile Walk course will start and finish at the Avery W. Hall Educational Center on the corner of Waverly Drive and Locust Street on the PRMC campus. Tuesday, Feb. 5

Grandparenting Class. Avery W. Hall Educational Center Auditorium, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury; 1-4 p.m. $20. Grandparents can play an important role in supporting a new family. Learn how to combine the value of life experience with updated information on supporting new parents. This evidence-based class will help grandparents learn what is new about infant safety, car seats and how to form a great relationship with a new grandchild. Hall Educational Center, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. This two-night course continues on Feb. 6 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Learn basic first aid, CPR and AED skills. The class is intended for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid/CPR/AED to meet job, regulatory or other requirements. Wednesday, Feb. 6

Tri-County Go Red. 5:30 to 8 p.m. Free. Berlin Intermediate School, Berlin. Stop by to take advantage of free health screenings and educational information for women. Register online at www.wicomicohealth.org or call 410-543-7028 for information.  

Friday, Feb. 8

ALS Support Group. 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Free. Avery W. Hall Educational Center, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. This support group welcomes people with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and their families to share experiences, education and encouragement. Call 410-543-7069 for information.   Becoming a Big Brother/Big Sister. 6 to 7:30 p.m. $20 per family. Avery W. Hall Education Center Auditorium, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. This 90 minute class is well-suited for children three to six years old who will soon have a new baby in the home. The class addresses their important role as a big brother or sister, what to expect with a new baby in the house and safe interactions with baby. Monday, February 11

Diabetes Support Group. 7-8 p.m. Free. Avery Hall Education Center Auditorium, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. Whether you, a family member or friend has diabetes, this support group, featuring presentations on how to manage and live with diabetes, can help. The topic this month is diabetes and nutrition. Tuesday, Feb. 12

Newborn Care Class. 6 to 9 p.m. $40. Avery W. Hall Educational Center, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. A must for first-time parents, this class reviews survival skills for the first six weeks home with baby. Topics include diapering, bathing, sleeping, calming a fussy baby and more. Tuesday, Feb. 19

Friends and Family CPR. Avery W. Hall Educational Center Auditorium, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. 1 to 3 p.m. Free. Knowing CPR could save the life of someone you know and love. Learn the basics in this free session taught by the PRMC Education Department. Call 410-543-7126 for information.  

Friday, Feb. 22

Prepared Childbirth Class. Avery W. Hall Educational Center, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury; 6-9:30 p.m. $75. This weekend express series also meets Feb. 23 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Meet other expectant parents at this interactive, two-day course that includes information about prenatal care, labor and delivery, post-partum care and infant safety. Classes should be taken during the sixth to eighth month of pregnancy. The fee is $75 for the mom to be and her coach. Pre-registration is required. Saturday, Feb. 23

Blood Pressure Checks. Macy’s, Centre at Salisbury. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free. Peninsula Regional Medical Center staff members provide free blood pressure checks in honor of American Heart Month, no appointment needed. Call 410-543-7139 for information.  

Monday, Feb. 25

Classes for this session will be held on consecutive Wednesdays through March 27. The cost of the five-week program may be reimbursed by your insurance.
