Prepared Childbirth January 2020

A four week evening series from 6-9 pm. Meet other expectant parents at this course
that includes information about prenatal care, labor and delivery, postpartum care,
infant safety and newborn care. You will learn what to expect during labor and birth,
different breathing techniques, relaxation skills, and other helpful comfort measures
to use whether you are planning a medicated or non-medicated birth. The 12 hour
series includes a tour of the Medical Center.

Diabetes Self-Management Education - Evening

People with diabetes can take control and learn how to live a healthy, fulfilling life while managing their condition. Peninsula Regional Medical Center is sponsoring Wednesday evening diabetes self-management education class sessions start to discuss healthy eating, activity, monitoring, medications, healthy coping, risk reduction and other self-management skills to help assist with diabetes control.

The evening class session will meet at the Medical Center on four consecutive Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. starting January 8. All classes are taught by certified diabetes educators.

Free Vascular Screening

The Guerrieri Heart & Vascular Institute offers free vascular screenings for people 55 or older, by appointment. All screenings will be performed at Peninsula Regional Medical Center between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Appointments are required - call 410-543-7123.

The free screenings will include ultrasound testing for carotid artery blockage and abdominal aortic aneurysm, and ankle-brachial index tests for peripheral artery disease.

Better Breathers Club

The Better Breathers Club is a free support group for adults with chronic lung disease. Monthly meetings offer support and education for individuals with asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, lung cancer, and other respiratory problems.
Family members and caregivers are also welcome to attend.

The group meets in the Respiratory Classroom, Room #2615, 2nd floor of Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s C wing. Use the Volunteer Services entrance near the Visitor Parking Garage, then take Elevator B to 2nd floor. Turn right off the elevator; the classroom is at the end of the hall.

Newborn Care January 2020

This 3 hour, from 6-9 pm class focuses on survival skills for the first six weeks home with baby. Topics include diapering, bathing, sleeping, calming a fussy baby, becoming a new family, and much more. Dad or another support person is encouraged to attend with Mom. Get some great hands on experience. Please note if you are attending a 4 Week Evening Series Prepared Childbirth Class, this information will be covered in the final class of the series.

Kids & Teens Diabetes Support Group

The Kids and Teens Diabetes Support Group meets the third Tuesday of every other month from September to May and is sponsored by the Peninsula Regional Diabetes Education Program. The group provides an opportunity for kids and teens who have diabetes, as well as family members and friends, to interact and talk about diabetes plus gain new information through special speakers and educational topics. 

All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please call the Peninsula Regional Diabetes Education Program at 410-543-7061 to register.

Kids and Teens Diabetes Support Group

Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s Kids and Teens Diabetes Support Group will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Avery W. Hall Educational Center Auditorium at PRMC. The group will discuss summer camps for kids and teens with diabetes, including Camp Possibilities and Camp Take Charge. Leaders, campers and family will discuss their camp experiences.

Lunch Bunch

Cancer Support Lunch Bunch. Noon-1 p.m. Location varies; please call. This social group brings together Delmarva residents affected by cancer in a friendly, informal setting, for lunch and discussion. Call 410-546-1200.

Breastfeeding Class January 2020

This 2 hour, from 6-8 pm class will prepare parents for a great breastfeeding experience. Please feel free to bring a support person with you. Studies show that breastfeeding is more successful when Mom has loving, knowledgeable support. Come and learn the basics of breastfeeding, proper positioning of baby, how to avoid common problems, and how to pump and store milk. Videos help to demonstrate the proper techniques for successful nursing.
