Peninsula Regional Medical Center Helps to Keep Cancer Support Services Available as Cancer Support Community-Delmarva Shuts Down
Since 2001, the Cancer Support Community-Delmarva, the Guerrieri Center for Hope and Support formerly known as the Wellness Community, has been serving Eastern Shore cancer patients with a variety of valuable services such as individual and group counseling, special get-togethers and information sources.
The Cancer Support Community-Delmarva will no longer be able to provide these services, so work has begun to transition services to Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute effective August 29, 2012.
“When faced with the community losing these services as a result of CSC’s operations closing down, the Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute was honored to step in to guarantee that Delmarva’s cancer patients, survivors and families continue to receive the best support possible,” said Joan M. Daugherty, RN, MS, Executive Director of Cancer Services at PRMC’s Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute.
People currently enrolled in CSC services will continue to receive them through Peninsula Regional Medical Center at CSC’s present location, 560 Riverside Drive, Building A, Suite 106, in Salisbury.
“Our main goal has always been to provide services at no cost to individuals diagnosed with cancer and their families,” said Walter Matern, chairman of the CSC Board of Trustees. “With this transition, these individuals will continue to receive the assistance they deserve and need.”
