The Physics Department of the Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland today announced James Hankins has passed his national certification and has earned the title of Certified Medical Dosimetrist.
As a Medical Dosimetrist, Hankins-using a Dosimetry Planning computer-works with radiation oncologists to develop individualized and multi-disciplinary treatment plans for each patient based on information gathered previously using Simulation CAT scan technology. The plan will be used for a patient’s entire course of treatment including radiation therapy delivered by one of the Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute’s two linear accelerators. The plans designed by Hankins target maximum amounts of radiation to the cancerous area while sparing nearby anatomical structures from exposure.
Hankins has been employed in the field of Dosimetry for 15 years and has held a Certified Radiation Therapist License for over 25 years.
