Bariatric patients experience easier diagnostic imaging as Peninsula Regional Medical Center’s Department of Radiology has become the first imaging center in the region to add the AXIOM Luminos TF total imaging solution.
AXIOM Luminos TF is the centerpiece of the Medical Center’s new Siemens all digital Radiographic Fluoroscopic Room. The technology was purchased by Peninsula Regional to directly address the imaging needs of a growing obese and bariatric patient population seeking medical and surgical services at the Medical Center.
AXIOM Luminos TF can easily and safely support patients up to 600 pounds. It also provides a full dynamic table tilt allowing the high quality, digital diagnostic imaging of patients up to 500 pounds in a variety of different positions. The new system also works in concert with the Medical Center’s PACS film-less, digital capabilities to provide the fastest, highest quality images possible.
The wide table top and open architectural design ensures ease of service for larger patients. “AXIOM Luminos TF was designed with patient comfort in mind, and with the wider table top we know our bariatric patients will feel much more comfortable during their examinations,” stated Mary Lou Melhorn, Radiology director. “The opening between the tabletop and the digital imaging tower can be expanded to nearly two feet in width and allows us to better image larger patients who might have been turned away or forced to stand for their study in the past.”
In a survey conducted by Siemens at 13 medical facilities across the country, customers cited technology to meet increased weight capacity as their top patient priority.
