Providing Women Expert Cancer Care, Close To Home
Internationally recognized surgeon Dwight Im, MD, in the photo above, has been performing state-of-the-art surgery and follow-up care at Peninsula Regional Medical Center since July of 2003. He is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Gynecologic Oncology and is committed to excellence in the care of women with genital tract cancers. Dr. Im is also the associate director of The Gynecologic Oncology Center at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
Through Dr. Im and the Gynecologic Oncology Center, surgical treatment for advanced cancers is now being provided here in our community. This center is the first and only center of its kind on the Eastern Shore dedicated to the diagnosis, detection and treatment of the primary cancers of the female genital tract.
Genital tract cancers are those of the ovary, endometrium, cervix, uterus, vagina and outer vaginal tissues. A vast majority, more than 90 percent, of the diagnosed cases can now be surgically treated here at our center. We are truly the only center with the expertise, support staff and commitment to make that pledge and promise to the women of the Delmarva Peninsula.
The goal of the Gynecologic Oncology Center is to utilize the great expertise of physicians and staff at the Medical Center to blend a multi-disciplinary, multi-modality approach to care. We provide gynecologic cancer surgical services, but incorporate radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and other professionals as needed.
