Peninsula Regional Medical Center - Part of Peninusula Regional Health System

Thoracic Oncology Program

In addition to the wide array of surgical procedures Peninsula Regional CV Surgical physicians perform, they also direct the Thoracic Oncology Program at Peninsula Regional’s Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute. Established in 2001, this is an advanced, state-of-the-art multidisciplinary program providing both the evaluation and treatment planning for all types of thoracic cancer, including lung, esophageal and mediastinal tumors. Each week, a multidisciplinary team of thoracic surgeons, pulmonologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and nurses evaluate patients who have symptoms and radiologic findings consistent with possible lung cancer. At the end of the day, the team of specialists convenes in conference to discuss each case and develop individualized evaluation and treatment plans for each patient. This multidisciplinary approach means the patient will receive diagnosis and treatment as quickly as possible and in collaboration with experts from a variety of specialties.
