Pulmonary Function

Every year close to 344,000 Americans die from lung disease.  Lung disease is America's number three killer, responsible for one in seven deaths.  (ALA 2003)

  • Do you get short of breath walking or climbing a flight of stairs?
  • Have you ever smoked?
  • Do you have a persistent cough?

Early detection and treatment of lung disease is your best defense.   Routine pulmonary function tests are encouraged for those at risk.

Pulmonary function tests are procedures that measure how well your lungs function.  These tests will help your doctor determine the cause of your shortness of breath or may help confirm if you have lung diseases such as asthma, bronchitis or emphysema.  These tests may be performed prior to major surgery on patients who have a history of lung problems or of smoking.

Pulmonary tests are also used to evaluate how the patient is responding to different treatments and how lung disease is processing.

Tests are performed Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
