At the center of care on the Delmarva Peninsula is the Peninsula Regional Health System's Peninsula Regional Medical Center, 100 East Carroll Street, Salisbury, Maryland 21801 where "Our Experience Makes Your Experience Better."

Peninsula Regional Medical Center, a 358 bed component at the hub of the Peninsula Regional Health System, is a 112-year-old, fully Joint Commission accredited tertiary care facility featuring Delmarva's widest array of specialty and sub-specialty services.  Over 330 physicians and 3,000 health care professionals and volunteers provide the care and compassion that nearly 500,000 patients rely on each year for inpatient, outpatient, diagnostic, subacute and emergency/trauma services. 

Peninsula Regional, as the regional leader in health care, welcomes over 2,200 babies annually, treats more than 80,000 people seeking emergency care, performs nearly 14,500 surgical procedures using robotics and minimally invasive techniques and admits more than 21,000 patients for care each year.  This year, Peninsula Regional will generate nearly $300 million in economic benefit back into the local community and economy, while re-investing $20 million into new health care equipment upgrades.

Peninsula Regional also supports numerous affiliations with clinical educational programs at area two-year and four-year universities that expand nursing, physician assistant, respiratory therapy, and surgical technology opportunities for area students. 

Peninsula Regional Medical Center was recently presented the 2010 Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical ExcellenceTM by HealthGrades, Inc., the nation's largest provider of independent hospital ratings.  Peninsula Regional is the only health care facility on the Delmarva Peninsula to receive this recognition in both 2009 and 2010, which places the Medical Center among the best 270 American hospitals for clinical quality performance and solidly in the elite top 5% of all 5,000 U.S. hospitals.

In 2010, ouir Pulmonary Care, Women's Health, GI Surgery, General Surgery and Critical Care divisions received HealthGrades Excellence Awards, ranking us among the top 5% and 10% of all hospitals respectively.  The study also found that Peninsula Regional Medical Center is:

Peninsula Regional Medical Center is also a Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations Accredited and Certified Primary Stroke Center and Joint Commission Certified in AMI (treatment of heart attack) and Total Hip & Knee Replacement Surgery.  The Society of Chest Pain Centers has also named Peninsula Regional an Accredited Chest Pain Center.  The Medical Center has also been certified as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.

In 2009, the Medical Center launched its Peninsula Institute for Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery (PILARS).  PILARS surgeons perform nearly 40 different minimally invasive general, GYN, bariatric, urologic and cardiac procedures-1,500 per year- some featuring the da Vinci Surgical System Robot.  Using customized instruments and high resolution cameras designed to fit inside very small incisions, surgeons perform precise operations with better long-term patient outcomes and shorter hospital stays.

The Guerrieri Heart & Vascular Institute offers patients comprehensive interventional and surgical cardiac care.  Surgeons and physician specialists performs nearly 600 open heart procedures and 4,500 cardiac catheterizations annually.  The Institute offers patients the region's only two Electrophysiology Labs for the treatment of irregular heartbeats, and houses the largest and most comprehensive cardiovascular/pulmonary rehabilitation program in Maryland.  Since 1974, surgeons have performed over 11,000 cardiac bypass surgeries; experience unmatched in the region.

The Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute provides patients complete and compassionate cancer care, including weekly multidisciplinary cancer treatment conferences, the region's only comprehensive lung program, outpatient chemotherapy services and dedicated patient navigators who assists patients and their families through the entire treatment process.  In 2009, it was presented the Commission on Cancer's Outstanding Achievement Award; one of just 95 cancer institutes in the nation to earn it.

The Gynecologic Oncology Center is the only center dedicated to the diagnosis and surgical treatment of female genital tract cancers. 

The Peninsula Breast Diagnostic Center offers women compassionate, confidential and complete breast care services from annually scheduled diagnostic testing and education to, if necessary, surgical intervention. 

The Medical Center's Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit allows premature or sick babies to be cared for near their families here on the Delmarva Peninsula.

Surgeons of the Orthopedic & Rehabilitation Center perform nearly 600 total joint replacements each year. 

The Peninsula Wound Center provides patients convenient and safe outpatient wound care, including Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for those suffering with chronic, non-healing wounds.

The Medical Center also supports numerous affiliations with clinical educational programs at area two-year and four-year universities that expand nursing, physician assistant, respiratory therapy, pharmacy and surgical technology opportunities for area students.  

Peninsula Regional Medical Center continues to partner with other health care providers to increase the availability and scope of services.  New technologies, including robotic heart and prostate surgery and advanced cancer detection and treatment options, continue to define the standard for safer care, faster recoveries and better outcomes.
