On Saturday, September 6, 2014 the Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute at Peninsula Regional Medical Center will be hosting its annual run/walk, the Roots Run DNA 5K, starting and ending at the Avery W. Hall Educational Center on the campus of PRMC. The proceeds from the walk help to fund the much-needed genetic counseling service that the Cancer Institute provides free to individuals who qualify, in conjunction with Mercy Medical Center.
The Cancer Risk Assessment and Genetic Counseling Service is a vital service for those who have a close relative with cancer, especially those diagnosed before the age of 50. These individuals may benefit from the risk analysis performed by the experienced genetic counseling staff.
With cancer causing the death of more than half a million Americans each year, knowing that you may have increased risk — and knowing what to do — can be a lifeline. It is important to note that 100% of the net proceeds from the 2014 Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute Roots Run will stay right here on Delmarva, helping our friends and neighbors.
